(Before reading this understand that I have used jettionsed cannisters for mining myself, and have not been offended when stolen from. Also, I have never stolen someones ore from a can before)
What is everyone's problem with this subject? I mean, if there was an actual problem I could understand it, but... there isn't any actual problem here.
The issue is that people who use jettisoned cannisters, open to everyone in the game, for mining purposes are not happy when someone comes along and steals the ore out of their cans. A valid concern is the act of putting ore into a jettisoned cannister for storage was actually a intentional design construct.
However, it isn't, and this has been stated so by CCP, so here is how the situation looks outside of it's scope.
Player A claims they were subject to "griefing" (commonly understood as one player deliberally ruining anothers game experience, through whatever method). So the question comes up as to how? Well the answer to that is they were using the jetcan mining technique and Player B came by and stole ore from the can.
Now, in a normal situation, this would be a valid complaint on Player A's part. However, we have another wrinkle, CCP, the developers of the game have PUBLICLY STATED that player A is exploiting the game. The exploit in this case is using Jettisioned cannisters, which are intentionally high volume to allow for equipment sizes when dropped by destroyed ships, to store ore in the cannisters rather than in their cargo hold. This is so that someone can mine the ore in large quantities, and then return later in another ship with a large enough capacity to take the ore back to a station for selling.
I will repeat it again, THAT IS A EXPLOIT OF THE GAME DESIGN! No matter what argument you come up with in favor of it, the developers themselves have admitted to this fact. Because you are using an exploit, you are breaking the TOS that you signed when playing the game, thereby forfieting your right to corrective action and submitting yourself to be penalized by CCP in whatever manner they see fit.
Personally, myself, and all those who use this technique, should drop down and pray to the CCP gods for not banning your account/IP address from the Eve servers. Instead, what do you do? You whine and complain about the issue.
